New Pond Monitoring Program Seeks Volunteers – Summer 2026
Friends of Chatham Waterways announces volunteer opportunities to help monitor freshwater ponds in Chatham by boat, supplementing ongoing local scientific data-gathering programs. In partnership with the town of Chatham, FCW volunteers are needed for the new summer water monitoring program for six ponds: Schoolhouse, White, Goose, Stillwater, Emery, and Lovers Lake. Cape Cod’s newest State of the Waters report shows that our coastal embayments and many freshwater ponds continue to struggle under the pressure of nutrient pollution from septic systems, stormwater, and fertilizers. While public drinking water remains strong, most embayments now receive failing grades, underscoring the urgency of local action.
